We are pleased to welcome you to the new website of FAMIMOVE 3.0 – Families on the Move: The Coordination between International Family Law and Migration Law.
FAMIMOVE 3.0 builds on the work and achievements of the previous FAMIMOVE project, as well as on the strong network established among experts and practitioners working in the fields of international family law, child protection and migration law. The new project started in March 2026 and is co-funded by the European Commission under the JUST-2025-JCOO programme.
The importance of FAMIMOVE 3.0
The FAMIMOVE 3.0 project contributes to the effective and coherent application of the EU acquis in the field of international family law, in particular by ensuring more awareness of international child protection instruments applicable to migrant children. A central objective is to ensure that the best interests of the child are effectively protected in cross-border situations.
The project will examine the protection of children and the interaction between family law and migration law in six EU Member States: Belgium, France, Hungary, the Netherlands, Spain and Sweden. It will also address several cross-border issues, including the portability of civil status documents, international child abduction and migration, and the protection of Ukrainian children in the EU.
From research to practical cooperation
FAMIMOVE 3.0 is not only a research project. Its aim is also to generate practical knowledge and strengthen cooperation among judges, lawyers, migration and consular officials, academics and other professionals working with children and families on the move.
National seminars will bring together relevant stakeholders in the participating countries, while transnational activities will explore specific challenges and possible solutions across borders. The project will also develop practical and educational materials and share its findings through an international closing conference.
By connecting professionals and bringing different areas of law closer together, FAMIMOVE 3.0 aims to contribute to a more coherent and child-centred approach to cross-border family and migration matters.
