This webpage serves as the domain of FAMIMOVE 3.0., Families on the Move: The Coordination between international family law and migration law. It is co-funded by the European Commission under the JUST-2025-JCOO program and started in March 2026. The project is built upon the work and achievements of FAMIMOVE 2.0 project (ide kérembeilleszteni a linket az ő honlapukhoz) especially upon the network which has been established during the earlier project among the experts in family law, child protection and migration law.

The FAMIMOVE 3.0 project contributes to the effective and coherent application of the EU acquis in the field of international family law, in particular by ensuring more awareness of international child protection instruments applicable to migrant children. It intends to map the measures for the protection of children in six EU Member States (the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Hungary, Spain and Sweden) in family law and their interaction with migration law. Nominated further topics and research areas are the portability of civil status documents (with a focus on statelessness and the age of the child), the interrelationship between international child abduction and migration law, and the protection of Ukrainian children in the EU. The main private international law instruments on international child protection, such as migration and asylum will be discussed, and their interrelationship will be discovered.

Beside the research-orientated approach, the project has functional purposes, too. The above-mentioned fields are discovered and analysed with practical aims in mind, as the inclusion of stakeholders will guarantee that the project findings are widely spread and utilised by consular officials. The better understanding of the relevant international and EU documentssuch as the problems of the interplay of the legal requirements of migration law, international private law, family law and child protection law, the child’s best interests and the practical considerations are essential objectives of FAMIMOVE 3.0 project.

National seminars are to be held in six EU Member States with the aim to discuss the connections between the relevant national measures for the protection of children and migration law with the involvement of officials, judges, lawyers and academics in the field of private international law, child protection and migration law. Transnational subprojects on the fields of portability of civil status documents, international child abduction and migration and protection of Ukrainian children will be built upon the discussions and results of the national seminars. Beside the desk research and survey directed towards Ukrainian children, educative videos will be developed directed towards consular officers regarding the portability of civil status documents. The final results of the project will be presented and analysed in an international closing/summary conference.

Disseminating information and knowledge about international child protection, including the recent Brussels II-ter Regulation, and improving the protection of children by bringing actual practice more in line with stated goals and values
 

Ensuring solid transnational network-building and active cooperation among different civil protection and migration authorities by bringing practitioners of these fields more closely together and improving their ability to cooperate
 

Connecting the fields of international family law and migration law through targeted approaches to practitioners in each field
